SON Conference Logo This niche event hosted in London focuses on Self-Organising Networks, providing an annual checkpoint on progress and developments. Due to a conflict with another event, I was only able to attend partially, but believe I caught the overall atmosphere. I’d suggest SON for mobile networks continues to progress but adoption seems to be at a similar pace to self-driving cars – inevitable in the long term, but nobody wants to be first to hand over complete control at the moment. Survey results from Heavy Reading show that mobile operators believe that network service quality is a top driver of customer loyalty, taking a higher precedence to customer care or price. Because of the significance that network quality has on NPS (Net Promoter Score) scores (aka “network-driven NPS”), it’s recommended that mobile operators focus on customer-oriented network performance to boost NPS. OK, so I caved in.

I don’t normally follow all the latest hits for teenagers. Being a responsible adult, I try not to teach my son to self-indulge with every craving and follow the crowd. But like many parents, when my son was spending hour after hour in front of the computer playing a game with swords, blood, chatting away with kids thousands of miles away, I thought maybe it’s time he tries something that will get him outside. He might benefit from interacting with trees, rocks, and other people he can actually see. Maybe he will even walk a kilometer, or two, and when going slow that gets boring he might even begin to jog, and feel the joy of moving his body swiftly through the cool morning air. Keep Reading →

Research and Analysts Firm IDATE reported that the total number of mobile connections will exceed 8 billion globally by 2019. The firm stated that the number of mobile users will grow more than 21 percent in the next five years. The total number of mobile subscribers in the United Kingdom alone is expected to grow 1.3 million from 85.3 million in the same period of time, 2013 to 2018. Even fixed internet subscribers are also set to grow at a rate of 18%. If this so, the Internet of Things and M2M communications is also expected to expand exponentially, as a ripple effect of this kind of growth in the mobile communications industry. IoT and M2M are pegged at 26 billion connected devices by 2020. Keep Reading →

PR Comarch Cellwize TGE

In December 2015, Comarch launched the SON Integration Box in cooperation with Cellwize as an extension of the company’s inventory project at Telefónica Germany. The new integrated solution is helping Telefónica to automate the optimization of their multi-technology and multi-vendor radio network, by ensuring data consistency in the network and all the supporting tools.

Krakow, 4 May 2016 – In 2015, Telefónica Germany appointed Comarch as the business partner to help consolidate their legacy OSS in the service fulfillment domain. Cooperation in this area between the companies started in March 2015, with the aim of supporting Telefónica in managing the consolidation and unification of inventory management for all network domains, including radio access, transport, core and fixed access network. The ultimate goal was to consolidate network management processes in the network merger project, arising from Telefónica’s acquisition of the E-Plus Group in Germany. The first stage of the inventory consolidation project was commercially launched in December 2015. Keep Reading →

Subscriber loyalty is coveted by every mobile operator, as it is the key to higher lifetime value of customers and is becoming more and more difficult to achieve.
Mobile operators’ Net Promoter Score (NPS), an index ranging from -100 to +100, that measures customers’ willingness to recommend a company, is on average +5 , far below Amazon’s NPS of +60. Any score less than +26 is purported to be the tipping point where customers are likely to churn, says Ofir Zemer, CEO of Cellwize. Keep Reading →

Operators are exploring new ways to monetize the growth in data traffic to offset falling revenues. Slowing subscriber numbers, as well as competitive and regulatory pressures, have led to a lower forecasted compound annual growth rate of only 3.1% per year for the next five years, down from 4% between 2008 and 2014.
